Objects sought for the exhibit include uniforms,
bats, balls, gloves, photos and posters,
scorecards, schedules, yearbooks and
scrapbooks. Some of the greatest pieces of
history are stories of the people who lived it. If

This featured exhibit at the historical Emlen Physick Estate reveals life as it
was
for various New Jersey baseball teams that were part of Negro League Baseball
organization from 1860-1950. A traveling exhibit prepared by the Middlesex
County Culture and Heritage Commission, this travel back into history is for
anyone interested in African American studies and the history of baseball. $2
admission or free with any tour of the Emlen Physick Estate. For more information

features a "... wonderful display of the Leagues great legends from their
introduction after the Civil War through their end in the 1960's." The Jazz

African American Baseball League Program.
February 10. If you or your favorite sports fan is going through sports
withdrawal,
here is a chance to learn more about a truly heroic period in American
sports history. A presentation by Mr. Theodore Knorr on the Negro Baseball
League is scheduled to be held. These Baseball players not only played
the game, they were pioneers in representing minorities in sports. Mr.
Knorr's presentation will examine York and Harrisburg's Negro League teams
as well as display paintings, baseball cards and other memorabilia. 2:00 PM at
the Historical Society Museum and Library, 250 East Market Street. For

Book Release: A Strong Right Arm: The Story of Mamie "Peanut"
Johnson.
Spring '02.
The title of Michelle Green's forthcoming book for young adults. Slated for release
in spring 2002 by Dial Books for Young Readers, the book tells the story of the
first woman ever
to pitch professional baseball. Peanut Johnson, who spoke at our regional meeting
in recent years, pitched three winning
seasons with the Negro League's Indianapolis Clowns in the early 1950s. Of the
three women who played pro baseball with
the Negro League, Mamie is the only surviving player. Complete with archival photos,
the book will sell for $15.95. Mamie now
works with The Negro Leagues Baseball Shop, 7913 Central Avenue, Capitol Heights
MD.

This Reunion Banquet will be at the White Eagle on Monday, April 22nd, 2002.

minute open bar. We're happy that Bob miller, former Detroit pitcher and member
of our Old Timer Board of

This Banquet will honor our good friend and member the late Jack Brickhouse.
Jack was with WGN radio and
TV since the early days of broadcasting. This year we'll add a memorial plaque
in Jack's name to a worthy
broadcaster; be there for this 1st dedication at this year's Banquet.
Jack was our MC more times than anyone else. His first Banquet was our 38th Reunion
on February 2, 1956 at
the Morrison Hotel; the late Mayor Richard J. Daley was the Principal speaker
of the evening.

Congress will host and pay tribute to veterans of the Negro Baseball Leagues,
with a
luncheon, a House resolution honoring league veterans and a press conference led
by House Republican Conference
Chairman J.C. Watts, Jr. (R-OK). About 100 Negro league veterans, including Willie
Mays, Harlem's World Series Little
League team, celebrities like M.C. Hammer and Blair Underwood and others will
join Reps. Watts, Danny Davis (D-IL), Charlie
Rangel (D-NY) and other Members for the September 18th salute on Capitol Hill.
