items related to these unusual baseball
league or teams for this exhibit should

Objects sought for the exhibit include uniforms,
bats, balls, gloves, photos and posters,
scorecards, schedules, yearbooks and
scrapbooks. Some of the greatest pieces of
history are stories of the people who lived it. If
you know of someone who once played for any
of these teams, tell us about it! |

SECOND ANNUAL SALUTE TO THE NEGRO LEAGUES May 31 (MARYLAND)The
Bowie Baysox (Class-AA Affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles) are proud to co-partner
this event with the NAACP. The Second Annual Salute to the Negro Leagues will
be held on Saturday, May 31, 2003 at 7:05PM. The Baysox will recognize 6-8 Negro
League stars and will honor arguably the greatest Negro League baseball team in
history, the Washington, DC Homestead Grays, by wearing replica Homestead
Gray
jerseys and giving the first 1,500 fans free Homestead Gray caps.
This game will also feature: Negro League stars from the Homestead Grays, Baltimore
Elite Giants, the Philadelphia Stars, the Memphis Red Sox and the Indianapolis
Clowns. Together, these Negro League players will throw out the first pitch to
Baysox players before the game and host an open autograph session with Negro League
players. The concourse will be filled with several Negro League displays, memorabilia
and exhibits, and Game-worn replica Homestead Gray jersey silent auctions with
funds going to the Negro League Baseball Players Association. With this Negro
League event the Baysox have now established ourselves as a leader in recognizing
the rich Negro League history in the Baltimore-Washington, DC region. For more

Annual Jery Malloy Negro League Research Conference
June 26 -29 The
Harrisburg Young Professionals and the Society for American Baseball Research
- Negro League Research Committee present the 6th annual Jerry Malloy Negro League
Research Conference June 26-29, 2003 at the Crowne Plaza Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
The conference will bring together more than thirty-six of the leading researchers
in the field of Negro League baseball history as well as several players. It will
feature twelve research presentations, a player panel, trivia, a Harrisburg Senator
game (06/26), a banquet (6/27), a baseball simulation tournament, a tour of significant
sites, entertainment, art, exhibits, and more. Schedule:

and more. The conference debuted in Harrisburg in 1998 and has subsequently
been held in Atlantic City, Kansas City, Memphis as well as another stinit in
Harrisburg in 2000. It is hosted annually in a city that formerly was home to
a Negro League team. The legendary Harrisburg Giants are the host team this year.
The $87 registration fee includes the conference ($50), June 26th Harrisburg Senators
game ($7), and the June 27th banquet ($30). To register and/or make a research
